Caravan Steps - we want your feedback

Apr 21, 2010

During the 5 years that we have been working with caravan dealers the most common form of liability claim has been in connection with injuries to customers falling off steps.

We are keen to work with dealers to tackle any issue that causes problems for dealers but we have to acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers to the step issue!

Some dealers don’t put the steps out at the vans but provide a stack to take from at the entrance with appropriate signs drawing attention to being careful getting in and out of the caravans. Sadly, in legal terms, this can be classed as an acknowledgement of the liability should someone fall.

There are differing types of steps and they will react in different ways depending on the ground surface and it is totally impractical to secure them to the floor. A rubber pad under the steps feet may also help to prevent sliding.

It is unlikely that we can get manufacturers to install fitted steps as they do on most motorhomes but we would be interested in any good ideas that you may have to add to the debate.

Please e-mail info@wilbyltd.co.uk if you have any feedback.
