Council Fined £75,000 Following Injury To Greenkeeper

A council was fined £75,000 following an injury to a greenkeeper at the local authority’s sports centre. The employee had two fingers severed while trying to fix the grass cutting cylinder on a tractor-drawn mower. The investigation revealed that the safety cut-out had failed, a protective shield was missing and a safety guard was badly damaged. The council were fined for failing to adequately maintain the equipment, train staff and carry out a risk assessment
