New Registration Scheme for Gas Installers

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that it has selected Capita as its preferred bidder to run the new registration scheme for gas installers from 1 April 2009.
The new scheme has a modern, sustainable structure which will enable greater competition in the future. It also has safeguards to prevent the provider from taking undue commercial advantage of its position. The scheme is set to deliver a suite of changes to refocus and improve consumer gas safety whilst also simplifying the regime, and securing best value for money for installers.
Details of the concession agreement will be finalised over the coming weeks with a view to agreeing it by September. Transition to the new scheme will take place over the following months so that the new scheme can begin in April 2009.
A new independent gas safety brand will be created as part of this new scheme which provides an excellent opportunity to re-launch key consumer gas safety messages on behalf of gas installers.
