Pressure on Health & Safety Expenditure
Jan 1, 2010
New research commissioned by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that more than 25% of business leaders said their organisations were under pressure to cut expenditure on health and safety this year.
Nearly 80% of business leaders acknowledged the potential dangers to their employees and to their businesses from this strategy.
Good health & safety standards are beneficial for businesses, the cost of accident prevention are almost always lower than the costs of an accident. As 90% of business leaders acknowledged that their employees are their most important asset, it would seem to be good business sense to protect the health & safety of these people.
The HSE has launched “Be Part of the Solution” aimed at making workplaces safer and promoting a common sense approach to health & safety so that risk management is an “enabler” for business and not a burden. The HSE sees good leadership by senior management as the most effective way to improve health & safety practices.
