Jan 1, 2010

A new report compiled by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has revealed that local authorities made 340 convictions under health and safety legislation over the last year.

These figures, which were compiled between April 2007 and April 2008, represent a 7 per cent increase in the number of convictions from the previous year.

The report also revealed that the average fine was £7,528 per conviction, with the largest combined fine for a single company being £275,000, which was handed to a company after a worker was crushed to death in a workplace accident.
