Why should you fit a tracker?

You have just taken delivery of your new prized asset, perhaps a new Range Rover or something even more exotic.

You know that it is safe from theft because it has a state of the art alarm and immobiliser so you can be safe in the knowledge that it is never going to get stolen, or can you!!!

Unfortunately the criminal world is equally aware that most cars are now pretty much theft proof without the keys to the vehicles and they have adapted to this by simply going after the keys.

This therefore means that your pride and joy may well be safely locked up on your driveway but the thieves have just broken into your house and taken the keys off the table by the front door.

The first you may know about it is when the car is roaring off down the drive or when you wake up in the morning and look out of the window.

It is for this reason that more and more insurers are insisting that high value vehicles are fitted with a tracking device. Insurers are well aware the immobiliser fitted to the vehicle is utterly useless if the thieves have managed to get the keys. At least if it has a tracker they have a fighting chance of getting the vehicle back and catching the thieves.

The other reason for going to the expense of a tracker is your claims experience. Renewal negotiations with your insurers are clearly going to be somewhat blighted by a £50,000+ theft claim on your record that could have been reduced or even removed if a tracker had been fitted.

One other interesting point to note is that if your vehicle does get stolen with the keys it may actually be worth having a bit of a drive around the local area as in many cases the thieves will park the vehicle up for 24 hours to see if it does indeed have a tracker. If it is still there after 24 hours it clearly doesn’t have a tracker and off it goes.
