Lowdhams Case Study
Lowdhams is a major retailer of caravans, motorhomes and camping accessories and operates service and repair workshops with locations at Gunthorpe, Bingham and Huddersfield.
Lowdhams had a health & safety management system in place, which they had been using for a number of years. Circumstances in the business made it appropriate to consider alternative proposals. Wilby Ltd already provided insurance services to the company and so Wilby Risk Management was invited to propose an alternative solution to Lowdhams’ needs for health & safety support.
Wilby Risk Management had wide experience of working with other caravan & motorhomes retailers and with holiday park operators. The approach was to offer a camping industry perspective to the services to be provided and to build on the existing good health & safety practices already in place.
Lowdhams were impressed with the wealth of industry knowledge Wilby Risk Management could contribute and decided to adopt the Wilby Risk Management health & safety management system for its three sites.
Each site now receives an annual health & safety and fire risk assessment as well as six monthly review visits. Wilby Risk Management also issues its two-monthly Caravan Industry News e-mail newsletters, which give advice on risk management issues relevant to Lowdhams business. An experienced risk consultant familiar with Lowdhams and the caravan industry has been allocated to Lowdhams, who can be called on at any time to provide expert advice.
Mark Mellors, Operations Manager, Lowdhams already had high standards of health & safety management in place before he appointed Wilby Risk Management. “We have found the attention to detail and the industry focus that Wilby has been able to provide to be of great benefit. We have improved our safety standards even further since the appointment of Wilby Risk Management and I am confident that by working closely with Wilby as part of our team we can continue to provide excellent workplaces and showrooms for our employees and clients”.
