The CSHSA's aim is to provide an independent audit of a contractor’s on-site health and safety procedures / processes.
This will help Clients to demonstrate that they are complying with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 – which is their duty to ‘take reasonable steps to ensure that the arrangements made for managing the project are maintained and reviewed throughout the project’.
This will also help Contractors to demonstrate that they are auditing their processes. Having an independent audit carried out will demonstrate their proactive approach and prevent their processes from becoming ‘blinkered’. It should be emphasised that the CSHSA is not a legal requirement but is an appropriate means for Clients and Principal Contractors to demonstrate compliance with their legal duties.
